BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Old Town Bellingham will see the construction of a new mixed-use multi-story building in greater efforts to redevelop the area.

The new six-story building at 707 Astor St. will have 84 residential units and commercial space on the building’s Holly and D Streets sides.

In addition to putting in new sidewalks around the property, the building will have limited parking and over 50 bike parking spaces.

Bellingham’s Planning and Development Manager Kurt Nabbefeld says the city is excited about the ongoing redevelopment of the area, including the Lighthouse Mission building finished earlier this year.

Nabbefeld says that the project is the first major redevelopment project under an agreement between the city and a large property holder in Old Town.

The city is currently reviewing building permit plans after issuing the land use decision.
