New data shows average Whatcom County wages increased nearly 6% in one year

WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Average wages in Whatcom County were among the fastest-growing in Washington state last year.

That’s according to newly released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which shows the county’s average weekly wage was $1,233 in the third quarter of 2024.

The nearly 6% increase over the past year was the second-highest growth in Washington and the 26th-highest among large counties in the U.S. Average weekly wages grew just over 5.5% in Washington, the fourth most of any state.

Meanwhile, overall employment in Whatcom County saw just over a 1% bump.

The slight increase placed Whatcom County among the top 1/3 of large counties in the U.S. in terms of growth.
