BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The third time could be the charm for school upgrades in Whatcom County’s third largest city.

The Lynden Tribune reports the Lynden School District voted 5 – 0 on July 17 to put a $129 million bond measure on the ballot in November.

If passed, the bond would provide money to build a new high school and performing arts center, while also funding gym and athletic complex renovations. The scaled-back bond measure comes in response to two failed attempts to pass a $157.5 million spending package in 2024.

The current high school was built in 1980 when Lynden’s population was 4,000.

By 2024, the city’s population had grown to 16,696.

Resolution 10-25 will need approval from 60 percent of voters to pass.
