WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Lynden man was arrested after an escape attempt sent him airborne.

Court documents state that Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies witnessed the suspect speeding on Slater Rd July 30th.

Before deputies were able to pull him over, the driver veered onto the I-5 on-ramp and lost control of the car. The vehicle went airborne as it flew off the roadway and landed in an embankment.

Deputies say that the driver, identified as a 19-year-old man, refused to let them search his vehicle. A K9 was called and detected drugs inside the suspect’s car after a search warrant was granted.

Deputies recovered several baggies of suspected cocaine and a pair of brass knuckles from the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested and released on personal recognizance on Wednesday.
