WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Grant funding is coming to the Lummi Nation to help expand their mental health services.
US Attorney for Western Washington Tessa Gorman announced that the grant was provided by the federal Dept. of Justice (DOJ).
The Lummi Nation will receive $550,000 to create a Mental Health Court, which will help tribal citizens get connected to appropriate treatment programs. Those include members dealing with substance abuse, mental health issues or both.
The Washington State Health Care Authority also received $7 million from the DOJ to help fund treatment programs in both communities and correctional facilities.
That includes training for law enforcement officials on opioid overdose responses.
