LUMMI ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lummi Island ferry is back in full service after an extended interruption.

Whatcom County Public Works says the Whatcom Chief returned from its annual dry dock outage on Sunday, May 11.  Drivers can once again bring their vehicles on board after two weeks of passenger-only service during the outage.

The Whatcom Chief was also temporarily out of service for a period of time on Tuesday, May 13 for hydraulic repairs at the ferry terminals, but it resumed trips around 2 p.m.

Along with its return come new improvements at the Gooseberry Point terminal.

Public Works says the approach area has new signage to help make the boarding process easier for passengers.
