Local agencies rescue elderly woman who fell down embankment in Sumas

SUMAS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Several local agencies helped rescue an elderly woman from a cliff in Sumas on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Whatcom County Fire District 14 says it received a report of a woman who had gone missing overnight.

She was located by a City of Sumas drone at around 11 a.m. on a cliffside down a steep embankment near Anderson Lake Road.

Firefighters worked with Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Bellingham Police and Sumas Police officers to set up a rope system to pull her up.

She was then carried out to a waiting ambulance and sent to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
