WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The last weekend of February is here, and we have plenty for you to do in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

Ready. Set. Go!

A fresh coating of snow in the mountains is good news for skiers and snowboarders. The Mount Baker Ski Area says they currently have a base of 124″ at Heather Meadows and 140″ on top of Pan Dome. Conditions are perfect for cruising the slopes.

If you are a first-timer, you are in luck. The ski area is offering a Best for Beginner package that includes all-day rentals, a two-hour lesson, and a beginner lift ticket. It is a great deal for anyone 7 years old and older who wants to learn to ski or ride.

For all the readers out there, Village Books is hosting a fantastic event on Friday, Feb. 21. Celebrating the Winner and Finalist of the PNWA Award in Literary and Mainstream Fiction will feature two authors.

Two finalists in the Literary or Mainstream Fiction category will be on hand to discuss their novels. Those authors are Alle C. Hall and Rebecca Holbrook.

Hall’s As Far as You Can Go Before You Have to Come Back is a “girl and her backpack” story that explores themes associated with the #MeToo movement. Holbrook’s novel Omie’s Well is based on family stories handed down through generations.

Celebrating the Finalists starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $5. Go to villagebooks.com for all the details.

It is the last weekend of the month, which means it is time for Community Crafting Day in Ferndale. The Ferndale Arts Commission invites everyone to attend this event at Downtime Taps on Saturday, Feb. 22. Head down to make jewelry, paint, draw, knit, crochet, sew, or do whatever you are passionate about with a fun group of locals.

Community Crafting Day is a free event and runs from noon to 2 p.m. Follow the Ferndale Arts Commission on Facebook for all the details about this event and more.

If you are looking for a few pints of beer to help power through this last weekend of February, look no further than Kulshan Brewing. The iconic Bellingham brewery has teamed up with Otherlands Beer to bring you a Night of Helles on Saturday.

Helles is that light style of lager we all think of when we think of German beers. Lagers from Kulshan, Otherlands, Chuckanut, Larrabee, Structures, pFriem and Gold Dot will all be on tap. There will also be live music in the taproom from 5 to 7 p.m.

Go to kulshanbrewing.com for all the details.

Our featured live show takes us to the Blue Room in downtown Bellingham. Public Theatre, an alternative rock band from Portland, will rock the stage along with Hockey Teeth from right here in Bellingham. If you like bands like The Killers, The Strokes and Phoenix, you do not want to miss this one.

The show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday and tickets are just $10. Go to blueroombham.com for tickets and all the details.
