WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If you love experiencing culture, this weekend is the weekend for you in Whatcom County. Film, beer tasting, dancing and live music are all on the docket in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

The CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival kicked off on Thursday, April 24 and runs through Sunday, April 27 at the Pickford Film Center in Bellingham. The festival celebrates films directed by women from around the world.

All genres are represented; narrative, live-action, animation and documentary films. Friday’s schedule includes a short film program, the Finnish film Ohjus (The Missile) at the Pickford and Yvonne Russo’s Viva Verdi! at the Mount Baker Theatre.

On Saturday, the New Prospect Theatre will host panel discussions titled “Inspiring Real-World Change through Film and “Behind the Camera: Women Directors Share Their Journey.” The Pickford will also show the films All God’s Children and Folktales along with another short film program.

It all wraps up on Sunday with a script workshop, the Canadian film Village Keeper and another film from Finland called Butterflies.

For more details and to purchase tickets, go to cascadiafilmfest.org.

We talked about Bellingham Beer Week in last week’s Lifestyle Lookout and now we dig into April Brews Day.

Bellingham’s biggest beer festival features more than 50 breweries and cideries from our region, live music and local food, all nestled on Bellingham’s iconic waterfront. Head down to taste local brews and ciders and enjoy the lovely sunny weather.

On stage this year will showcase a mix of timeless country hits and funky grooves for all. Bellingham’s own County Rose will start the event off with some country tunes with Baby Cakes closing the event out with a mix of funk and classic hits.

All the proceeds from April Brews Day go to support the Max Higbee Center, an organization that helps people with developmental disabilities access recreational opportunities in Whatcom County.

For tickets, go to aprilbrewsday.org.

If you would rather dance than drink, the City of Bellingham is hosting Bollywood and Bhangra on Saturday at the Cordata Pavilion. Learn about Bhangra and Bollywood dancing from a Rhythms of India instructor. Dance, style, language and culture, it is a chance to do it all.

Bollywood and Bhangra runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon. To register, go to the City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation website.

Our featured live show this week is an all-ages event at the Blue Room. Seattle’s Magenta Wave will bring their sultry indie rock vibes to the stage on Friday night. Fans of Radiohead, Sunny Day Real Estate and Death Cab for Cutie don’t want to miss this one.

Opening for Magenta Wave are Cuttlefish and Pantsuitguy. For tickets, go to blueroombham.com.
