WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Gas prices are still slashing records left and right.

AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Whatcom County costs $5.76.

That’s up 7 cents from a week ago and 44 cents higher compared to last month.

We’re only sitting two cents below the state average of $5.78, making Washington the second most expensive state to fill up the tank behind California.

Nationally, the average gallon price has risen to $4.52.

AAA said that prices took a slight dip before continuing its worrying upward trend.

Demand is on the rise ahead of the travel-heavy Memorial Day Weekend, which could see its highest holiday prices in four years.
