BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A donation fund has been set up to support the Lummi Nation police officer who was critically injured in a shooting earlier this week.

The community fund for the officer’s family was set up through the tribe’s Lhaq’temish Foundation.

A fundraising dinner is also being held at Syros Restaurant in Lynden from 4 to 8:30 p.m. this Monday, with all proceeds going to the officer and their family.

My Bellingham Now previously reported the officer was shot several times after approaching a suspect who drove their car into a ditch on North Red River Road early Monday morning.

According to Sheriff Donnell Tanksley, the 37-year-old officer was hospitalized, has undergone surgery and remains there in a stable condition.

The officer’s name is not being released at this time out of respect for their family’s wishes.
