BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Port of Bellingham announced that Ecotech Solar will begin installing panels at the Bellingham International Airport during the week of Oct. 2.

The new installation will consist of 250 solar panels manufactured by Silfab Solar in Bellingham. The project is expected to significantly decrease the airport’s carbon emissions by 140,000 kw hours a year.

“With this installation of solar panels, Bellingham International Airport is setting a precedent for airports across the nation,” said Adrienne Douglass-Scott, Sustainability Program Manager at the Port of Bellingham. “We are excited about the long-term benefits this solar installation will bring, both in terms of cost savings and environmental impact.”

The solar panels are expected to meet a substantial portion of the airport’s energy needs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 100 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year.  The installation also aligns with the Port of Bellingham’s goals of reducing carbon emissions by 90% compared to 2019 levels by 2030.

Ultimately, they intend to have carbon emissions down by 100% by the year 2050.
