BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Plans are moving ahead for new pathways around a Bellingham pond.

Bellingham City Councilmembers voted last week to approve a contract bid for the Sunset Pond project.

Some pathways around the pond already exist, but the $3.7 million work would add boardwalks, bridges and a connection to nearby trails. The project will be partially funded through a $1 million grant through the Washington State Department of Recreation and Conservation, in addition to Greenways levy funding.

Construction on the Sunset Pond loop is scheduled to begin next month, with the project expected to be completed in early 2027.
