WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Crews began more emergency repairs on the Mount Baker Highway on Monday, Jan. 19.

WSDOT says two sections on the highway east of Glacier were damaged by last month’s historic flooding.

Both directions of traffic will continue to alternate between mileposts 41 and 44 throughout construction, but one section of the repairs will require a five-day full closure of the highway. The dates for that closure have not yet been announced, but it’s expected to take place in early February.

These most recent repairs follow more work on the Mount Baker Highway that began over the weekend to fix a damaged culvert near Maple Falls.

Travelers should expect delays while both the repairs take place, which WSDOT expects to finish within the next month.
