THIS WEEK:  - The Johnny Cash Band - Well it probably seems a little strange for me to feature The Johnny Cash Band on Locals Only. The first band that I played in that made a few bucks was called D.W.I. It was a country band, but we played enough rock and roll to make it interesting and folks came to see the band because of guy named Dan Whyms. Dan sounded just like Johnny Cash and we did many Cash favorites. Recently Johnny Cash's touring band was looking for someone to front them on the road and Danny came to their attention. Now the Northwest's premier Johnny Cash impersonator has become Johnny Cash. Danny along with drummer "Fluke" Holland, bassist Dave Roe and pianist Earle Poole Ball will perform on the Main Stage at the Mount Baker Theatre on September 10th.

Coming Up:
September 12th - Twitch
September 19th - The Productionists

RECENT GUESTS
Here are some of the artists who've made recent appearances:

Sunday, August 29th - PK Dwyer has been a working musician for the past 40 years. I first saw him in Seattle in 1979 with his band The Jitters. Years later I saw him when he performed a George Michael Jackson. Since then PK has continued to perform, most recently as a busker in New York City. He recently relocated in New Mexico after suffering an injury to his hand and is back in the Northwest doing a few gigs. PK writes songs with a sense of humor and self-deprecation that I've always found amusing and I've looked forward to this interview.

Sunday, August 15th - Massey Ferguson hail from Seattle and Sedro Woolley. The group calls their sound American Rock and they've recently been working on their first recording at a major recording studio. The group has carved out a unique sound that resonates with interesting musical licks and thoughtful lyrics. Meet Adam, Ethen and Tony and sample the sounds of Massey Ferguson.

Sunday, August 8th - Fanny Alger are one of my favorite groups. It's crazed post-punk insanity with a message that is grounded in some kind of truth. The band's latest recording, Fanny Alger Does Memphis, was the final recording at the famed Sun Studios in Nashville before the studio began its next phase as a museum. Recently the group appeared in a book about Lansky's, clothier to Elvis Presley and numerous other performers. Always up to something, this band continues to produce manic music that matters.

Sunday, August 1st - Puget Sound is a strange combination of talent. Amy Hindman has delivered sweet sounds to Northwest audiences for more than 30 years. Morty Webb, on the other hand, has roughed up the music world in bands like The Duvalls, Promised Land and The Bleeding Hearts. The two met years ago and recently Morty was inspired to hunt Amy up at one of her local performances. The two worlds collided, noone was injured and they've teamed up to do a few gigs. One of those gigs will be at The Majestic Hotel in Anacortes on August 7th at 4pm.

Sunday, July 11th - The Chris Eger Band plays rockin' blues ala Stevie Ray Vaughn. Chris plays guitar and does the lead vocals, his dad, Randy Eger, puts down the bass and backing vocals, Brendan Abshier adds the keys and vocals, and Mark Clark is the band's newest member on drums. These guys are tight and you'll hear their latest recordings on this week's Locals Only.

Sunday, July 4th - A Simple Machine will perform at The Mount Baker Rhythm and Blues Festival on Saturday, July 31st. The festival has always mixed some good local bands with its lineup of nationally recognized acts. Manuel Morales, Jon Grover and Neil Sorenson are a group of veteran musicians who just like to play. Jon was a guest on Locals Only when he was with Love Junkie and Neil Sorenson appeared as a member of The Shadow Creek Projectl Check out their latest musical adventure here:

Sunday, June 20th - Havilah Rand was a force on the Bellingham music scene for almost a decade. She's moved on, but will be returning to do some gigs to promote her newest recording Bengalese Butterfly. Winner several years ago of the Red Hook Band Slam, a battle of the bands sponsored by Classic Rock 92.9 KISM, we talked to her about what she's been up to and listened to cuts from the new CD on this week's edition of Locals Only. Sunday, June 6th - The Little White Lies have a new self-titled CD. Dusty Timmerman, Pete Ruble and Chris Beaty form a rockin' trio that's out to conquer the local music scene. Classic rock influences abound in this group's work and you can check it out here in their Locals Only interview.

Sunday, May 23rd -  The Halyards joke their debut CD "Fortune Smiles" has been 35 years in the making. Well, half joke. Carl Funk and Larry Mason trace their friendship to grade school. For the last decade they have written and performed around the Pacific Northwest as Funk Mason. Approached by old friend and Grammy award winning musician Eric Tingstad to "do a little recording," no one expected a 12-track CD--let alone a new band. But, sometimes, with luck, timing, and hard work, ingredients become larger than the sum of the parts. This is The Halyards.

Sunday, May 16th - Kristi Nelson is an attractive young singer/songwriter from Bellingham. While she hasn't released a CD of her matierial, she has been recording some of her songs on a home system. She shared some of those recordings and performed a couple of songs live on this week's edition of the show.

Sunday, May 9th - Jeff Kenny is a singer-songwriter from Vancouver, B.C. He writes from the heart and plays a pretty mean guitar. He recently released his second CD Deep In The West. We listened to some cuts from both of Jeff's recordings and talked with Jeff about his music.

Sunday, April 25th - Bone Relix (sounds like relics) are a group of guys who work at the BP refinery and make some great music on the side. Les Browning, who's played guitar with a number of local bar rockers over the past decade, and members of The Imposters have formed a hard rocking quartet that has focused almost exclusively on writing and recording. You can here the results of that work here:

Sunday, April 18th - euGENE WENDELL are a couple of guys from Port Angeles who've turned out some great music. Gene got involved in music early singing with San Francisco Opera and "Doc" Wendell has been pounding the drums forever in Peninsula bands. The two teamed up in Port Townsend and you'll hear the results of their partnership are pretty amazing. By the way, Doc's mom makes the best peanut butter cookies I've ever had.

Sunday, April 11th - Odds were one of my favorite bands in the 90s. Their well-crafted power pop sound is brash, melodic and thoughful. After breaking up ten years ago, the band is back and once again producing some great sound. Craig Northey joined me by phone on this show and we talked about Odds, their adventures in the music world, and we listened to some great tracks from these Canadian rockers.

Sunday, March 21st -  Dana Lyons made a splash internationally a decade ago with his novelty hit Cows With Guns. Since that time his music has maintained a sense of humor, while taking on corporate greed, environmental issues and the complex tangle of relationship. Three Legged Coyote is Dana's latest release and we talked to him about the recording, his causes, and his latest Hawaiian visit.

Sunday, March 14th - Kasey Anderson doesn't call Bellingham home these days, but he will be performing at the Green Frog Cafe in Bellingham on Thursday, March 25th. Kasey's lyrics come from the street and are presented with a voice that seems a little older than its owner. We listened to cuts from Nowhere Nights and talked with Kasey about the Portland music scene, where a gaggle of former Bellingham musicians are currently based.

Sunday, March 7th - Flowmotion is one of the area's most popular bands. Solid musicianship and evocative lyrics have made Flowmotion a band that not only entertains, but also inspires, their audience. Beginning in Friday Harbor, the band has weathered a number of personnel changes and the horrible decline in decent music venues to continue dragging folks out for an evening of fun..   Check out the interview here:
