Woman in jail dies from apparent suicide

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A woman who apparently tried to hang herself in the Whatcom county jail has died.

A jail guard and a nurse found Shannon Jefferson Monday afternoon.

She had a bed sheet around her neck.

They began CPR.

Jefferson was rushed to PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center hospital where she died Monday night.

The incident is under investigation.

Jefferson was being held on failure to appear charges.
