According to ESPN.com league sources have confirmed that the Los Angeles Lakers have offered their head coaching job to Byron Scott. Sources say the two sides are now negotiating a deal.

Scott reportedly spoke with owner Jim Buss Thursday, after which the Lakers made a verbal offer to Scott.

Scott is a former Lakers star who won three titles playing alongside Magic Johnson. He has long been the front-runner for the job. Lakers star Kobe Bryant played with Scott as a rookie in 1996 and the two have reportedly maintained a friendship.

Mike D’Antoni resigned as Coach of the Lakers at the end of April.
