A mudslide in Snohomish County has killed at least three people, as the slide carried multiple homes with people inside across a road just before 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

The third fatality was confirmed by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s office via Twitter.

The mudslide occured near the tiny town of Oso about 60 miles south of Bellingham.

Six homes were totally destroyed.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation’s twitter account, the slide has blocked SR 530 in both directions and is warning residents downstream of the┬áNorth Fork Stillaguamish River of potential flooding.

The slide area was estimated to be a mile long, Washington State Patrol trooper Mark Francis said via Twitter.

Rescue efforts have been ongoing since this morning with eight victims rescued and sent to Skagit County hospitals and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Seattle Times is reporting one patient has been treated and released from the Cascade Valley Hospital. The Times is also reporting a 6-month-old baby was airlifted to Harborview.
