Helicopter crash victim recovering from first surgery

SEATTLE, Wash. – The driver who was badly burned in the KOMO-TV helicopter crash in Seattle is recovering from his first surgery at Harborview Medical Center.

Richard Newman’s car was hit by the falling chopper.

Newman suffered burns on 20 percent of his body.

He’s is in serious condition after a surgery Friday.

Newman is a Bellingham native and graduated from Sehome High School in 1994.
