BELLINGHAM, Wash. РThe Washington State Patrol says a Ferndale teen who died when he fell from a pickup truck on Lummi Shore Road may have been trying to escape a lit firework.

Eighteen-year-old Isaac Misanes was with three other young men that were shooting off fireworks from inside the truck just after 4:00 pm Wednesday afternoon.

Trooper Mark Francis says that according to the young men, the passenger in the front seat lit a firework inside the cab and Misanes climbed out the back window to avoid the blast.

He says they keep changing their stories about what happened before Misanes died.

The driver of the pickup truck, 25-year-old Brandon Dennis has been arrested by Lummi Police on charges of obstructing law enforcement.

They don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

Detectives are continuing to investigate.
