BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County will spend $1.1 million to make room for a new judge.

The Whatcom County council approved the expenditure on Tuesday.

In a bipartisan effort, local state legislators were able to get the county the Fourth Superior Court judge.

Faber Construction will create the space for the additional judge.

Governor Inslee will make the judicial appointment later this year and the new judge will start work next year.

Voters will decide who fills the seat in the following election.
